How to Motivate Employees?
I think a key to motivation is a good working environment. I have known people who worked in a company for years due to the loyalty and dedication to one another. To know that I work for people who care about my personal life as well as my work life, would be a key to me doing better at my job. This would include:

*Managers who set up reward systems to employees who do good jobs (incentives, promotions, etc)

*Any gatherings that would promote socializing among co-workers

*Benefits that would make it flexible for employees to take necessary time off for personal matters.

*Upper management who treat everyone equal regardless of title. This is important because if there was any problems between a boss and a subordinate, someone could be able to step in and mediate without being biased.

I believe that if a company is able to take that extra step in making people comfortable in a work environment, the more they will be willing to work and stay there.
Reply:Yes, it is very simple. Honest days work for an honest day's pay. First you have to produce the honest days pay. There are always the lazy ones though.

Many employers want $20 an hour work for only $10 an hour pay. Henry Ford was an excellent example. He payed $2 a day and expected you to work 10 your days. I do mean work with only one lunch break. That was the beginning of organized labor.
Reply:For Me: To maintain my life style, I need my job. Therefore the potential to be fired or layed-off motivates me. There must be the possibility of losing the job in order for folks to work hard to keep it. Otherwise, it is just socialism without competition.

Secondly, Recongnition and feedback. I like to be told I'm doing good work or "your a key member" of the team. There are many ways to do this (performance reviews, awards, peer reviews, public announcements, letter to upper management, etc).

Third, Money. The potential for more/increase in salary or a bonus check is always a good motivator.
