Does anyone know of any research/studies/surveys done on terminating employees?

I have to write a paper and the research has to be based on multiple studies and surveys on terminating people. Simple articles on termination won't do. So, does anyone know of any journals that would have detailed research or know of any studies that were completed on terminating employees. Any information would be greately appreciated.

Does anyone know of any research/studies/surveys done on terminating employees?
www.shrm.org

it's an HR website. they have message boards etc...i bet there's lots of info you can get from them.

also, there was a big study done about costs of turnover affecting a compnay...i think harvard did it...

if you're in college, buddy up to a librarian. they can help you search your school library database for professional journals in the HR field.

also, check out www.teamster.org they publish a magazine, that may have articles.

GOOD LUCK!

Online survey?

My boss wants me to make a website that collects simple information from employees about the research they are doing. I am considering using a free online survey service. Does this seem like a smart idea? And if so does anyone know any secure, trustworthy and attractive ones that they want to recommend?

Online survey?
www.surveymonkey.com - is VERY good. Some people do not like the name, but the service is great. Some big businesses (e.g. shutterfly.com) use that service - very reliable. You should try it!!!

What are ways to prove that a training program is working or not in a company?

I'm proposing that companies should implement age diversity training to their employees in an effort to bridge the generation gap.

How does a company monitor this effort to see if it is actually working to see if they should continue it or not?

I can only think of surveys for participants to fill out but what else?

What are ways to prove that a training program is working or not in a company?
I think that the company should just modify their training program so that everyone would understand the training. It would be cost effective than several different training programs. At the end of the training session and during the training session ask them if they understand and maybe do small tests and the end of each segment to make sure they understand. They will show you who needs extra training or where you may need to change the training to help them...

How seriously do stores like Target and Walmart take their customer surveys?

The ones that are on the bottom of your receipts with the websight link. If you complain about a particular store departmet or employee is it taken seriously?

How seriously do stores like Target and Walmart take their customer surveys?
I will tell you my Walmart horror story and how I "solved the problem". I went to Walmart and was putting my infant son in the car when a "cult like" church group approached me pinned me in at the door of my car. They had bright blue t-shirts on and flyers for there church. I really did not listen to what they had to say just asked them to leave. I locked my car doors picked up my cell phone and called inside the store using the store number on my receipt. I called inside the store where I spoke with an associate who said "We know they are there and besides you are the only one to complain." Then she hung up. I went home and called Walmart corporate got thought to someone 45 minutes later who took my complaint down and told me a supervisor would call. Fifteen minutes later the supervisor called and apologized and begged me not to sue. The next day the store manager called begged me not to sue and told me the employee who I complained about was no longer with the company. I also never saw a church group in the parking lot after that point and Walmart put signs up all over the parking lot stating "No soliciting in parking lot." So I would say calling the corporate office is pretty effective. I did call on a Tuesday afternoon, however. I think they take customer service very seriously if not they would not pay an outside company for input. If you are trying to complain about a serious problem I would call direct and not to the store manager.
Reply:I've noticed that they conduct surveys through mailings, usually to their credit card customers, and through telephone surveys. This is very beneficial for them and cost effective. Sometimes, they have the customers telephone a number on the bottom of their sales receipts. This works well also. If I were going to complain about a specific store department or employee, I would contact the main library in my city. Then they will give you the updated information as to whom the present CEO is. Once you "certify" a letter to that person or even the President, you will get results. Dealing with the Customer Service Department, most often, is a b.s. situation. Peace, Love and God Bless.

Filling out surveys for an online application?

Okay so I'm filling out applications online for certain places that I want to get a job at. They have these surveys that Im sure everyone knows and they ask these questions that seem to be double edged to me.

For instance one question asks whether or not I beleive that people take advantage of their co-workers to get ahead. And everyone knows that yes, that is true. However, at the same time if I answer yes then that may reflect badly on myself saying that I'm the kind of person who would do that. So then maybe I should answer no. But then that makes me look like Im stupid and naieve.

So in other words, what kind of answers should I give in these surveys? Honest or ones that make me look like I'd be the model employee?

Filling out surveys for an online application?
Just tell the truth - if you don't pass some sort of test, you probably are much better off without that particular job.

I've seen similar tests. In the same bank of questions, there are "redemptive' questions - such as "I think it is okay to belittle another employees accomplishments in order to look better." By answering that question "no", you have in effect shown that you realize that some people do that, but you personally don't.

Good luck in your job search - you probably will do just fine - I think it is great that you are thinking about what is put in front of you.
Reply:Do your answers have to be just yes or no?

And it's not true that everyone takes advantage of their co-workers to get ahead. That would be a very competitive work environment. They exist, for sure, but there are other more cooperative work environments - I've worked in one like that for 15 years - where colleagues help each other out rather than stab each other in the back. I would much rather work in a cooperative environment than a competitive one.

The employees of a company were surveyed on questions regarding their educational background...?

and marital status. Of the 600 employees, 400 had college degrees, 100 were single, and 60 were

single college graduates. The probability that an employee of the company is married and has a

college degree is:

A) 400/600 B) 340/600 C) 500/600 D) 40/600

The employees of a company were surveyed on questions regarding their educational background...?
Of the 400 that have degrees 60 of them are single, so that leaves 340 that are married. Of the 600, 100 are single which leaves 500 married. So out of the 500 married ones, 340 have degrees. So the answer is "B" 340 out of 600.

Dear Employee:?

As a result of the reduction of money budgeted for departmental areas, we are forced to cut down on our number of personnel.

Under this plan, older employees will be asked to take early retirement, thus permitting the retention of younger people who represent our future.

Therefore, a program to phase out older personnel by the end of the current fiscal year, via retirement, will be placed into effect immediately.

This program will be known as SLAP (Sever Late-Aged Personnel). Employees who are SLAPPED will be given the opportunity to look for jobs outside the company.

SLAPPED employees can request a review of their employment records before actual retirement takes place. This review phase of the program is called SCREW.

SCREW (Survey of Capabilities of Retired Early Workers). All employees who have been SLAPPED and SCREWED may file an appeal with upper management.

This appeal is called SHAFT (Study by Higher Authority Following Termination).

Dear Employee:?

You are a new employee, do you want to stay?

Please tell me what would "make it or break it" for you as a new employee.

What are the attributes that would make you stay with a company or decide to leave.

I am dealing with a high turnover and structural issues at the moment and would like a "public survey" of what things are important to them in a job. Think of yourself as the brand new person on the job, and then tell me what you expect, and if your expectations fail, when you would leave or what would make that final decison for you to leave.

Thank you!

You are a new employee, do you want to stay?
Well, as a former, and successful, retail store manager, I can tell you that people want to be treated well, more than anything else. People want to know that their manager respects them as a person.

My formula for the 98% retention rate at my store was simple...I treated my employees with respect AND, I never ever made anyone do anything that I wouldn't do myself...including cleaning the public bathrooms in my store.

I got amazing results from my employees because they knew I cared about them and I rarely had any problems getting folks motivated to perform.

Please take this drug testing survey....?

I need to have a survey done by tomorrow, thank you for your participation. :)

1.)Are you employed(Yes/No)?

2.)Does your employer have a drug testing policy(Yes/NO)?

3.)Have you ever used illicit drugs while employed(Dont have to answer this one if you dont want to,ill understand)?

4.) Have you known of anyone who was reprimanded for testing positive(Yes/NO)?

5.) How do you feel about drug testing? (1-It is very beneficial;2-it is somewhat beneficial;3-it is neither harmful or beneficial; 4-it is somewhat harmful to employee rights; 5-it is very harmful to employees rights.)

6.) Any other comments?

This is a survey. WHEN YOU ANSWER PLEASE GIVE DETAILS FOR EACH ANSWER.

AND CAN YOU ANSWER THIS WAY:

FOR EXAMPLE YOU PICK A: (A) YOU WOULD ACCEPT THE FACT THEY THOUGHT YOU ARE THIN

(11) If a female cousin of yours asks you if you are a size 8 due to the fact they are cleaning out their closet and you tell them you are a size 8 and they reply I THOUGHT YOU ARE A SIZE 8 but could not remember if you told them you are a size 8 or 10

(A) Would you accept the fact that they thought you are a size 8 but had a memory lapse and could not remember if you told them size 8 or size 10?

OR

(B) Would you think they did not think you are a size 8

(12) You go into a health store and purchase two herbs and then once you pay for them you ask the clerk how much should be taken and he says most woman weigh a 160 pounds but you weigh a little less. You ask him to clarify and he says he thinks you weigh a 130. This upsets you because everyone is always saying that they think you are 110 pounds. (KEEP IN MIND WHEN HE SAID THIS REMARK YOU WERE STANDING BEHIND THE PARTITION, YOU ARE WEARING A COAT AND ALL HE CAN SEE IS YOUR ARMS AND FACE)

(A) Do you say well he cannot see me because I am standing behind a partition

OR

(B) Read into his remarks and think otherwise

(13) If you are wearing pants that balloon at the hips and a male friend of yours says you have ample hips, however, the next day when you wearing pants that do not balloon at the hips and he looks at you says “No you don’t have ample hips it was just the pants you wore yesterday“”

(A) Do you accept the fact that he does not think you have ample hips and it was only the pants that did it

OR

(B) You do not accept his answer

(14) You are at the Xerox machine making copies. A female coworker comes over to make copies and you ask her if she thought you were thin and she answered “Well” in a hesitant way. But then she left because she did not want to wait. However, later on she saw your entire body and ran over and said “My God you are thin. I always saw you sitting so I never realized how thin you are”

(A) You would accept the fact they thought you were thin

OR

(B) Would you read into their remarks and thought otherwise

(15) If someone tells you that they think you are a size 5/6 and they also say that their employee thinks you are a size 5/6 but you have hips but they do not think your hips are big

(A) would you accept the fact that all they are saying is you are thin with shape

OR

(B) Would you read into their remarks and thought otherwise

I need help with data analysis for a research proposal for class?

I just need to use simple data analysis for my proposal but I'm bad at stats. I'm using a likert scale survey instrument. The question I'm trying to answer is: what level of burnout do employees at a certain job report.

I need help with data analysis for a research proposal for class?
The questionnaire that you are going to use for data collection should, at least, contain the following:

1. Job title - measured nominally ( to get infromation about the employee's job)

2. Items on burnout - measured using Likert-scale (use standard questions developed by previous researchers, if available)

Now, for the analysis part:

1. If you are interested in the differences of burnout between different jobs, use one-way ANOVA

2. You may also be interested in the differences of burnout between gender/age etc (question on these should be included in the questionnaire)

3. Correlations can also be used in the analysis, e.g age and burnout; job level and burnout.

What do you do with a pain in the *** co-worker?

I work with an older woman who is lazy and very uncomfortable to work with. She hardly does any work and spends most of the day sitting around eating or talking. She is always watching everyone to make sure things are being done right, but as soon as someone "slips-up" even if it's something small she reports it. The scary thing is, that she doesn't even take the time to appoach the person with her concerns instead she just goes straight to the boss. Just reciently two people got fired because of her, so everyday everyone has to walk on eggshells to make sure they do things right so they don't get called into the bosses office to get couseled (or fired). Well, I've had enough and it's time that she get's a taste if her own medicine, but I'm not sure what to do. What do you suggest?? I was thinking of a survey be handed out to all employees to petition her out. Do you have any ideas?

What do you do with a pain in the *** co-worker?
In every work environment you will always find that one person who just comes to work to make evryone else's life a living hell. I think it would be best if you did the petition among the employees and then a group of you go into the boss and dicuss the situation. Tell him/her that all the other employees are extremely uneasy because of this one person who is not really contributing to the amount of production. Her work attitude is poor and she needs to change that in order for everyone to be the best at their job. Ensure that you guys point out that she is constantly watching you and its a very stressful and uncomfortable situation which you hope can be rectified in the quickest possible time.

The end result either she eases up on the monitoring of the employees or she gets the pink slip - Its a win/win situation.
Reply:Record everyone talking about how bad a coworker she is and set her up!!
Reply:Do your job and the way to throw her under the bus will happen. Don't do the petition thing. That's so junior-high.
Reply:Seriously, you may need a new job. Toxic is right! If management actually likes a snitch, then that's not good management. They are encouraging this toxic environment.

If you ahppen to be in a position where another job seems impossible (like you're rural, need a car pool to be able to make ends meet, hey, it happens, you know), then probably the second person's attitude is correct.

But remember to have mercy and compassion on such people- not by interacting, just by soothing your own mind with peace and forgiveness.

This person is harder on herslef than she is on anyone else. That's the way it is with those types.

Pray for her, or wish her well, whatever.

But if you ever have to turn it around on her, just remember to ahve a few things written down.

Write them down now, then forget it.

Protect yourself now, and let it go.
Reply:I suggest you don't get within 10 feet of this woman. Do NOT fight fire with fire. Just review your job description COMPLETELY and be sure to stick to the organisation's Standard Operational Procedures. Also be sure that you're always on time. Don't fuel her fire...it will soon burn out...Pay her no heed...do not keep her company. She can be classified as a 'toxic' person and we need to keep those out of our lives.

It would also help a great deal to redirect your energy from worrying about her to doing a great job...Focus also on the opposites of what she's brings to the workplace...that way, she will indeed fade away and the workplace will improve.

Three weeks into job, made a mistake, what should I do?

I started working in a human resources dept. at a university. One of the first project I was part of was an employee survey. I went from being part of the development to the collection of data and its presentation. We used an online service to host the survey that was extremely cumbersome to use and capture the data we were looking for. I got little or no direction from the higher ups, and would get the data after each request. In doing the final reports, I omitted a department. Its data ended going under a small department and the rest in the undetermined group. My boss asked me where the XYZ department was, and it wasnt there. So I quickly got the information and gave it to my boss. When I sent her the info, she sent an email saying she wanted to me with me and discuss this and other issues she had. When I went to meet her she went balistic. She asked me to leave and go home and think about if I wanted to work there. Things went from very pleasant to hell. SHould I stay or go?

Three weeks into job, made a mistake, what should I do?
Hey it sounds like an innocent mistake. Take responsibility for your mistake, dont make excuses, confront your boss in an action plan way and move on. You never know this might be the mistake that makes your career and teaches you how to work for that school. Now if you don't like the job alraedy then thats a different story!
Reply:It is not your fault they did not properly train you. From the looks of the team leader, she is very quick to judge. If this job is important to you, I suggest stay and state why this issue occured. Try not to point fingers, but state what happened and what you will do different in the future. Give her the pressure of deciding, because you are new employee to the team.
Reply:kill the boss ,resign immediately and shift to Iraq.
Reply:Its human to make mistakes. Let your boss knows that you've learned from this mistake and ensure her there won't be a repeat.
Reply:I think its unfortunate that she went ballistic on you and I wouldn't want a boss like that. You are new, untrained, and made an honest mistake. A good supervisor would be a little more understanding and make sure you get the proper guidance next time. The fault really is as much hers as it is yours. Whether you want to continue working there is up to you but you've now been black marked and it will be hard to redeem yourself. If you have the financial resources, I would leave, but if not, stay on but start looking for something better.
Reply:Well staying might beat you up emotionally and so the best for you may be to start elsewhere. Keep in mind that if you go looking for work somewhere else that this boss of yours may be called for a recommendation and she may recommend that you shouldn't be hired for the simple reason of her experience with how you performed whilst working for her. If you stay on, you'll have to work hard and prove yourself. If you're a sucker for punishment you'll stay and make her see how well you actually work in your expertise. You've made a mistake, try not to make it again. But forgive yourself in the meantime and think really hard about what you're finally going to do
Reply:Even though you have had a bad experience you can learn from it. One way to give the responsibility back to your boss is to ask her what advice she can give you in this situation. Make her think about how to resolve the issues. This will also show her that you're willing to listen and learn. If you can stick with it until you can find another position that would be best. When you are out interviewing make sure to ask the person you would be reporting to what kind of a boss they are and how they are going to handle it when a mistake is made. If you have the opportunity to talk to people who also report to the person make sure you ask them as well.
Reply:I would stay , just so I could get a chance to stick it up the people who stuffed me around , do a bit of study of where you went wrong , grab all the info on the place , and build your contacts of people to call upon for info , and become very good , then if you feel so inclined to pull the pin , then do it then , but until then , dont go unless they sack you , and be more assertive back , think about your situation now , you really dont care from here on in , act it , by being assertive on being stuffed around back , they most likely will end up loving you for it. and will save you the buearocratic bullshit , they seem to of being handing you now
Reply:From your point of view was this your only mistake? Do you think the boss will allow you to improve and more on? Will you feel comfortable continuing to work there? There are many questions you need to answer for yourself to make a decision. How good a job do you view this as? Are you new to the job market? Will you easily be able to find employment elsewhere? GOOD LUCK
Reply:Stay for now but keep your eyes open for another job if one comes up. There is no point in making yourself unemployed just because your boss can't excuse an understandable mistake. Put yourself first. You only lose by making it a matter of principle.

Online Survey's???

I have signed up on numerous sites to do online surveys. I'm not looking to get rich over night. All I am looking for is a little bit of extra income each month ( I'm a full time employee) The only problem is that I have only done 1 survey. Everybody always tells how they have surveys coming in non-stop. Why haven't I gotten more than 1? Is there something else that I could be doing to earn a little bit extra $$ each month...without being scammed and having to pay?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Online Survey's???
Depends on the site. They usually either tend to send lower paid surveys frequently, or higher paid ones occassionally. If you want to be recieving paid surveys daily, you will want to sign up with multiple sites. Even then you won't qualify for all of them and some will fill up before you access them.

I've listed some of the sites I have taken surveys through and actually been paid (or received other rewards like gift cards or CD'S) on the following site:

http://www.windhavenweb.com/surveys

I list how they pay you, what I like and dislike about them, whether they have an affiliate or referral program, etc. (And yes, if I say they have an affiliate program, I'm part of it, and make a commission when someone signs up through that link...I like to be up front about that).

As you're searching, here are some tips to avoid scams. Don't sign up for any survey site which asks you to pay to access the surveys. Also watch for language like "get paid for taking surveys AND SIGNING UP FOR OFFERS" if you don't want to have to sign up for stuff with other companies to get paid.

Always carefully read their terms of service and privacy policy. If in their privacy policy they say they only use aggregated info, this is GOOD SIGN they are legit. Aggregated info information that is grouped together so it can't be connected with anyones personal identification like name, e-mail, phone or address. That's what survey sites SHOULD collect. Avoid sites that say they give, rent, or sell any personal information (info that is not aggregated) to third parties (unless you really don't mind getting junk mail, telemarketing calls, and spam).

Also, never sign up for a survey through an unsolicited e-mail--since these might not even be from the site they claim to be, but could be a phishing scheme to get your information and mis-use it.

Here are two other sites which are very helpful

Survey about computers and people that don't own one.?

I've been doing reserach for my small business mangagment project on computers disposal/rebuiding them. I can't find how many people in the Inland Empire don't own a computer. My data stops at 2002. So, here is my survey.

Are you on your own computer now?

How old is your computer?

How many computers do you own?

Are there any in the garage or attic collecting dust? This includes old monitors.

Do you know anyone that does not own a computer?

If yes, how many people do you know?

Do you live in the Inland Empire (Southern California)?

If you don't live in California, what state are you in?

Do you know any low income people that would benefit from owning there own complete computer system (with printer)?

Are you a student in college or high school?

The more people that answer the better business plan I can create. My business will employee people with developmental disabilities and I resell computers to low income families and those with disabilities. Thanks.

How do I convince prospective empolyer/s my interest in exploring diff areas of HR other than recruitment?

I have exp in recruitment and would like to participate in functions like employee orientation, development and training; employee relations, writing / designing questionnairs/surveys %26amp; other fun stuff! I tried mentioning my excitment in cover letters and during interviews as well....without any success:-( How do i convince interviewers / employers? Any tips?

Pls Guide.

How do I convince prospective empolyer/s my interest in exploring diff areas of HR other than recruitment?
From an 'HR' standpoint - if I were interviewing you and you referred to the other areas as "fun stuff", you would probably be disqualified. You should focus on your desire to continue recruiting in an environment where you can learn/participate in other HR Generalist duties - because you want to expand your skills and add more value to the company - not because it is "fun".

Designing a survey?

I am designing a survey to give out at work to find out why the turn over rate has increased so much in the last two years. What type of variables should I inquire about. My hypothesis is: Employees who feel underappreciated at work tend to have a poor work attitude, thus move on to other companies.

I want to survey parents for help?

I run and in home child care business that is looking into expanding including hiring help. I want to include the opinions of my current cliental in the hiring process in that I want them to partake in survey of what criteria they believe a potential employee should have before consideration. Problem is, I can't think of good questions to ask. If you were a provider building a survey for parents, what would you ask them about their thoughs of a potential employee for children, especially if there may be times that person is left alone with the children (as in doctor appoints I must go to and so on.)

I want to survey parents for help?
I would do a Likert scale. I would ask parent to rate the following qualities on a scale of 1-5. 1 being "very important" 2 "somewhat important" 3 "not sure" 4 "not very important" and 5 "not important at all" Here are some things I'd include on the list

Years of Experience

Level of Education

Sense of Humor

Communication Skills

Caring Personality

Ability to deal with behavior problems effectively

Bi-lingual

References

Flexibility with Scheduling Hours

Willingness to Take classes in childcare/education

These are just the ones that came to mind immediately - I'm sure there are more. So, parents would rate each of these with number 1 through 5. Then you would score it and know which things are most important to the parents. good luck
Reply:Background check is a must...I'd want to know if the person has a criminal record or worse sex offender and yes women can be sex offenders.

Send home a memo for the parents, explaining your intentions and you would like their input so far as what type of childcare provider they would like to have for their child. Chances are if they like you then finding someone with similar personality, experience and demeanor would be what they are looking for.
Reply:why don't you just ask them what you just asked here! what would they want to see in an employee!? have them make a list of what they want. present a certain situation with their child and ask them how they would like to see it handled. hope that helped a little!
Reply:As a parent, I would insist they have a Blue Card. I don't know if you have this as I don't know what country you are in. In Australia, any person remotely associated with children through their employment must have one. They are thoroughly screened and checked on with police reports etc.

Next, references, experience with caring for children.

Whether they drink or take drugs

Their age

Explicit questions like: what would you do if a child kicked you etc.
Reply:I would ant to know there beliefs backgroud on discipline their other values If I were looking for child care . Their attitudes and their everyday habits also the more like me the better for my children I also think they should be very honest and professional. But also friendly and likeable who can relate wth and understand the children.
Reply:I think scenario questions are always a good way to know how people will react. You can ask lots of " What would you do if...." .This will help you to see how this person will look in your day care. If you ask " What would you do if you saw a child hit another one" and she said " I'd spank him" you'd know right of that you don't want to hire that person.

I think it's a good idea to let your parents know that you are thinking of hiring some one and ask them what sorts of things they would like to see in a person. I would appreciate that as a parent.

i hope this helps!
Reply:If you can't think of good interview questions for potential assistants, you shouldn't be running a child-care business. And you'll instill no confidence in your clients (parents) if you ask THEM!

What percent of medical insurance does your company pay?

I'm interested to know what percent other companies pay of employee medical health insurance. I did not find any published surveys.

What percent of medical insurance does your company pay?
You will find that they are all over the place in the percentage that companies pay.

Typically, white collar jobs (professional, desk jobs, etc) will pay a higher percentage than a blue collar (construction, retail, etc.)

I work in a white collar position and mine pays for 90% of my health coverage and 50% for dependents (wife, kids)
Reply:It is up to the individual company. The is currently no law on the book that says you have to pay for, or even offer insurance. While it used to be a standard part of a compensation package it is now used more to attract and keep quality employees. My advice is buy the best and most that you can afford. (if it is zero, then so be it) Health insurance is a hot-button ticket these days. Offering any kind at all makes you a more attractive employer.
Reply:All of our employees pay for their insurance 100%. The company pays 0%. We are a small company and the premiums are too high for us to pay for everyone.
Reply:mine pays everything (100%)...even our copay!
Reply:I read in an insurance publication from 2006, most (50+ ees) employers pay 70-80%. EE contribution is 20-30% of premiums + copays, deductibles, and coinsurance.
Reply:Ours pays about 60%.
Reply:My company pays 50% (insurance agency of about 65 employees), my husband's company pays 80% (manufacturing company with over 100 employees). Both my old agencies in NJ paid 100% (one with about 30 employees, the other with 5 employees)
Reply:This is private company information, so you won't find a big published list. Could you imagine how that would get abused?

Mine pays 0%.

How many of you were dining in a restaurant and went into the bathroom and watched employees?

come out of the restroom stall and not washed their hands? We had a poll and Survey on this while in nursing.....Not to many of the employees washed their hands...Make a comment???????

How many of you were dining in a restaurant and went into the bathroom and watched employees?
YES ALL THE TIME! THAT IS SO GROSS ISNT IT?????????!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I have seen plenty of people not wash hands after walking out of the stall. Straight to exit door. I will notifiy manager that employee did not wash after use in toilet stall.
Reply:Report them to the health department. I think that laws need to be upgraded to misdemeanors and jail time.
Reply:More than anyone realizes! I had to do the same observational study when I was taking hospitality classes in college. It's alarming how many people don't.

The scary part is the same people probably use the paper sanitary ring more than ever wash their hands.
Reply:The best comment I can think of for your funny question comes from a Bob Evans in Louisville, KY, where they used to have a little sticker over the sink with a picture of Old MacDonald, and the following instructions: In order to properly wash your hands, sing one full verse of "Old MacDonald" . . . had a farm, etc. In the time it takes to sing the full verse, you should be able to properly wash your hands.

I never heard anyone singing.
Reply:I've seen it and had no problem complaining to management.
Reply:Just because they don't wash their hands in the bathroom doesn't mean that they don't wash them when they return to the kitchen. When I had my orientation at Mc Donalds we were told that even if we wash our hands when we go back to the grill area to wash them in the bathroom too because if there are customers in there it will freak them out to see us not wash our hands.
Reply:Yup I've seen it plenty of times..its so GROSS..but as long as i work at my aunts rest. i will always wash my hands after using the restroom!!

What do you look for in a Daycare Center?

As a parent, employee, or just because. What do you look for in a daycare. I currently work in a family owned business and we're trying to get different ideas and aspects of things from people. Even if its basic plain and simple; we like cleanlyness, warm feeling enviornments, ect.

What would catch your attention on a flyer?

If you can think of anything else, this is only a sample survey and more for curiosity than anything, write them down.

I appreciate it, thanks!

What do you look for in a Daycare Center?
Make sure they are licensed by your state.

1. State the Null Hypothesis and Alternative Hypothesis, 2. Determine the test statistic?

3. Determine the P-value, 4. Make a decision about the hypothesis

Q: According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, job stress poses a major threat to the health of workers. A national survey of restaurant employees found that 75% said that job stress had a negative mpact on their personal lives. A sample of 100 employees of a restaurant chain finds that 68 answer "Yes" when asked: "Does job stress have a negative impact on your personal life?" Is this good reaon to think that the proportion of all employees of this chain who would say "Yes" differs from the national proportion, p(0)=.75? Use a 5% level of significance.

1. State the Null Hypothesis and Alternative Hypothesis, 2. Determine the test statistic?
1. because the question says "differs" you have a two tail test

H0: p = 0.70 vs H1: p ≠ 0.70

2. Because of the large sample size we can assume normality and use the Z statistic for the hypothesis test

3. the p-value is the probability of observing a sample in bigger disagreement with the null hypothesis H0, than we saw in this case.

Find the test statistic

Z = (p - p0) / Sqrt[p0 * (1-p0) / n]

Z = 0.68 - 0.75 / Sqrt[ 0.7*0.3/100]

Z = -1.5275252

the p-value = P[ Z %26lt; -1.53] + P[ Z %26gt; 1.53] = 0.063 + 0.063 = 0.126

4. since the p-value = 0.126 is greater than the significance level we conclude that H0, the null hypothesis, is plausible. Note that we cannot conclude that the null if true, only that it is plausible.

Do they believe they are showing off about their 'Prestigious employment'? - I mean 2/3 the population work for BBC don't they?

Same goes for employees at Deutsche Bank/Goldman Sachs etc, but I suppose they at least have a reason to boast.

Anyone else find it incredibly annoying???

Survey: on London underground, why do BBC employees feel the need to wear their passes???
You get ready for work, you put on your pass and leave the house. It is much more effort to put it in your bag, then when you get to work search around in your bag trying to find it again. Get over it.

An internal survey?

"....An internal survey revealed that some employees at Company Y had called in sick in order to take care of a sick child. ..."

can you please tell me the meaning of this sentence ?

what does call-in means here ?

this is confusing

An internal survey?
a survey that was taken within Company Y....

they called into their workplace to report sick and get out of work.

so apparently a survey from Company Y revealed that some employees at Company Y called their workplace on the phone to say that they wouldnt be going to work because they were ill. But really, they were taking care of a sick child.

i think i broke it down well. :D
Reply:It means just that.. the people who worked for this company had phoned-in sick when their children were sick. According to internal survey meaning survey made only for the people who worked there.
Reply:It jus' means the company conducted a survey within the confines of itself... It jus' asked its own employees, nobody else. And they called off sick. Called in = called off sick. Same thing.
Reply:To ring by the phone
Reply:It means that those employees called the company in the morning to say that they couldn't come in because they're sick.

Does that help?

My employer is requiring everyone to take a "behavior survey". I am a supervisor...?

I am uncomfortable with this survey, which looks like a personality test to me. Many of the questions are non work related such as..."How do you handle conflicts with a family member?" and "Are you happy with your current friendships?" The people I supervise, for the most part are not really objecting, but one woman is refusing to take the test , survey or whatever you want to call it. Management is pressing everyone to take it. there is no way to skip over in the personal questions, it is computerized. This is being given to existing employees, and being described as "something that will help you advance to the right position in the company, it will not hurt anyone" After the test, everyone will sit with the manager and the rep from the comapny to discuss the results. I answered with what I thought would be the "right" answers. I will NOT go into the BS I deal with at home with my boss and the rep from the company who distribute the test. I know this survey will not help everybody

My employer is requiring everyone to take a "behavior survey". I am a supervisor...?
Approach it positively. Some managers are more secure getting input on their subordinates using a tool like this. It will not be a problem for you if you approach it honestly and positively.
Reply:Legally they can't force you to participate in a survey, however, remember that there is a file on you at the company with all the good bad and the ugly, and when it comes time for a promotion or increase, they will be reading into your file. Taking a stand can sometimes also show leadership, and very rare is compensated as such. Good luck

What is the scope, purpose and limitations of an attitude survey?

Employees attitude and morale survey... in an consultancy as well as in an mnc

What is the scope, purpose and limitations of an attitude survey?
Attitude surveys are a very old term for this tool to measure employee attitudes toward work, bosses, leaders etc. Traditionally these surveys covered management quality, the effectiveness of compensation and benefits programs, organizational communications issues, safety and health concerns, etc.

Right now most companies use surveys to measure levels of employee engagement and trust.

Before introducing the survey, you should make sure that executives make a real commitment to it and are open to paying attention to problem areas. If you are going to do a survey, you must commit that you will listen to what employees have to say, address their concerns openly and honestly and make changes based on the survey results. If you don't have this commitment the effort will fail. The worst thing you can do is conduct a survey in an environment where upward feedback is not welcome in the first place. Employees are smart enough to see through a false commitment, and you may only succeed in creating an employee relations disaster.

Teeth %26 Gums help

I need to survey a business. its a mini market with employees. What questions should i ask the employees?

What is the reason for this survey? Is it something that the owner/ management requested, or are you doing a school project.

If you are doing something for the store management, then they should be able to tell you what kind of information they are looking for.

If you are doing a school project, why do you think the workers should spend their time answering your questions? Do you have permission of the management to do this survey, or are you just going to take up the time that the management is paying for?

Workers are paid to work. They are not paid to answer non work related questions. If you were to take merchandise from a store without paying for it, that would be theft!! You are taking the time that the employer pays for, and using it for your own purpose. I would say that is also theft.

I need hard data on the benefits of employee development, employee training programs, human capital investment

Surveys, reports, graphs, etc. would be most helpful, to be used for a paper on the benefits and ROI of employee training programs this paper must include all my resources. I can find general information at SHRM and ASTD about increased loyalty and retention. I'm trying to find information that shows the $$ relationship to increased productivity, retention, etc. Specific reference and reports would be most helpful.

I need hard data on the benefits of employee development, employee training programs, human capital investment
The consultants Watson %26amp; Wyatt conducted a fairly comprehensive study a few years ago to provide exactly that information. The final report was called the Human Capital Index (HCI). Its purpose was to demonstrate statistical correlations between shareholder value and certain human resource practices. Watson Wyatt also produced a study called WorkUSA 2000, that demonstrates a statistical correlation between various areas of employee satisfaction and the corresponding increase in market/shareholder value associated with them. Two of the authors of the above studies, Bruce Fau and Ira Kay, also summarized the finding in an excellent book called "The Human Capital Edge."

This is hard data, rather than ruminations on how treating people well, etc will pay off. The book correlates certain HR practices (e.g. "Employees have input on hiring decisions + .5%" and "Pay is linked to company business strategy + 1.2%") with the percent increase in market/shareholder value associated with that practice. I believe you can get a fuller breakdown of the numbers from the HCI.

If you're looking for hard ROI data, I haven't seen anything better than this. And there are some real surprises, such as employee access to training being correlated with a 5.6% DECREASE in market/shareholder value (the authors discuss possible reasons for this counterintuitive result).

What to buy my 4 female employees this year.?

I supervise four female employees who all work full time. I was going to buy them nice desk calendars, but I heard on the radio that a recent survey says that employees really don't like them. (I usually ask for one when my kids ask what I want for Christmas)

Additionally I have 9 part time employees, should I get them something too?

Employee Involvement in YOUR workplace?

Can you please tell me what kind of employee involvement shemes you have at your workplace, and if you could tell me a bit about them and whether they have been/ are effective?

(eg. suggestion schemes, newsletters, quality circles, attitude surveys?)

MANY THANKS!

Employee Involvement in YOUR workplace?
Perhaps when you find out these answers, you could forward them to my superiors. Employee involvement at my work place seems to be reduced to signing the weekly birthday card of coworkers and tallying how much revenue is lost buy people stealing post-it notes and pens. Ah, the joys of being an office monkey.

How many concurrent users can Microsoft access handle?

hi

I am looking forward to build a survey tool for my internal oragnization in my company

So i was wondering if i build asp.net driven front end and microsoft access as backend.

No of employees taking survey would be approximate 1000.

and DB should be able to handle concurrent request at the busiest hour of the week e.g. Friday 12-5 or Monday morning around 8-12.

Can access handle such rush ? or any other solutions suggestions are welcome too :)

How many concurrent users can Microsoft access handle?
Another poster answered your question well. I'd like to add that if you indeed do go with access, you can expect to get 5-10 concurrent users up and running before msaccess becomes unstable and/or slow.
Reply:If you are familiar with SQL you can use Microsoft SQL Express 2005 (which is free) for a much more robust back end. 1000 users hitting an access DB won't be great in terms of speed or data integrity so maybe you can space them out in teams of 200-300....

HUMILITY DISGRACE DISHONOR

WHOOPS THAT'S THREE
Reply:My name is Denise and I'm 22. I used to work at this elementary school with two kindergarten teachers. One was very mellow and the other one took everything like it was life or death. If I was slow with something or it was wrong, she would freak out. When she left me alone with the kids and they got noisy she told me that I wasn't keeping them quiet instead of yelling. I tried talking to her and she says she doesn't get mad and doesn't mean to it but it still hurt. The mellow teacher started getting grumpy with me the 3rd year also so I decide to leave their class and worked at a high school. I worked at the high school my cousins go to and walked to their house to get picked up there by my parents since I don't drive. The teacher was very nice and never reprimanded me for nothing. Well the assistent principal did becuase she heard this rumor which wasn't true that I said I liked someone at the school. I told her that it wasn't true and she believed me but she told me, "if it happened to be true than you should stop." She was being nice but I wished she wouldn't have said that becuase she did believe me but it sounded like she didn't. I explained to her that I have cousins in that school and I talk to them. After that I was careful of what we talked about and if we wanted to say something, we waited till we got home. I'm working in a different high school, which is the one I went. I hope I have a smooth ride there, since my ex bf goes there.

Polls and Surveys: Anonymous employee is destroying everything in sight - see details; what can I do about?

Has anyone ever experienced employee sabotage at work?

How did you handle it? What kinds of things were they doing?

All of a sudden, things started to break in the office. First it was minor things such as broke door handles, holes kicked in bathroom walls, spit on all the corporation’s plaques and logos.

Then it became more destructive, $5,000 conference room tables began falling apart and very expensive color copiers shorted out by water. I don’t know how to go about catching this person or even if it is more than one person.

Has anyone as a boss ever dealt with this?

If so, please answer what occurred and how did you stop it.

Even if you have not caught them and are going through this, please share your story and possible solution.

Polls and Surveys: Anonymous employee is destroying everything in sight - see details; what can I do about?
I would place a video camera somewhere that it can't be seen !! Sooner or later the person will get caught !! It could be a person who is supposed to clean the offices and is jealous of the wages the corporations people make !! You never know!!!!! lol
Reply:You need a hidden camera and a good lawyer.
Reply:i would put up hidden cameras. And don't let ANYONE know that they are there. And as soon as you catch them charge them and fire them.
Reply:Hidden cameras.
Reply:We set up cameras to catch the employees. You can buy them for fairly cheap (compared to the damage they're doing). I would suggest buying the ones that only record when movement is detected. And definitely digital. Good luck.

How to write good references (for resume) for our employee?

that's from construction/survey discipline.

How to write good references (for resume) for our employee?
The best reference anyone can get is a verbal/phone call reference. References written down tend to be insincere and not very realistic or telling of the person.

If you have to write it down do something different, explain how the person is reliable, but in terms of his/her reliability and how he/she was reliable. Explain how they're quick leaner, adapt, work well with others and most importantly focus on how they get things done.

Don't just say "gets the work done, is a great worker" say something like.

John doe worked on a large project of ours that had tight deadlines and a strict budget and not only did he complete on time but he beat our own estimates and raised the bar on future projects. John doe was a great member of our team and will be sincerelly missed and will make a great addition wherever he goes to work.

Hope that helps! And thank you for taking the time to write a reference, it is always something people appreciate!

Paid Survey Sites that asking for membership fee is Scams and UNLEGITIMATE EMPLOYMENT OFFER.. Is it true?

But on the contrary, these company charges a one time only registration fee is

BECAUSE they only want serious job applicants filling out our surveys.

If they allowed access to the surveys for free we would have "curiosity" applicants filling out survey applications that were not really serious about the surveys, and taking up applications intended for serious job applicants.

They said that they just want to weed out the "just curious" applicants from the "serious and reliable" survey employees.

Since a survey taker can easily make the application fee back in only about an hour online, we don't really see it as a fee, but a way to show you are serious about being an online survey taker.

Please hellp me, i wanna participate to a legitimate Paid Survey Site THAT AVAILABLE HERE IN PHILIPPINES and i can really earn good enough money.

I dont know what im going to believe, Please help me guys.

Thank you in advance

Well, there are scams but there are many honest, too. And yes, some of survey sites filtering members by asking one time fee. But there are some sites asking fee for nothing actually. So, you have to be careful when joining un-free survey sites. You can see a list on http://workfromhome-at.com/nofee.html . There are many good survey sites presented.
Reply:No, any site that asks you to pay them is a scam! Some will never send you surveys and others will send your name to a couple of companies you could have for free. Check out http://freewebs.com/surveyopportunities for a short list of make money at home opportunities, some of which are available in the Phillippines.
